Welcome to the lowell senior capstone website! What is service? Is it helping the elderly cross the street? Fighting for your country? Helping at a homeless shelter?
Service is the act of providing for a group, organization, or your community through support, labor, or management. So in a way, all of those ideas are providing a Service! The Lowell Senior Capstone Class is designed to help its students provide their service to a cause the students personally choose. Through the service learning environment of the class, students will learn what service really means while engaging in projects of their own design to not only help a cause, but teach them the values of helping others in their community! The course has students go beyond volunteering and requires academic engagement like taking surveys, learning about new technologies, reading non-fiction for research purposes, and writing similar to that done in college. The course is closely tied to the standards of the Common Core Curriculum, so it truly is service-learning and not just a volunteer opportunity. |
This website was created by a set of students who chose their service learning project
to help the public see what outstanding work the seniors at Lowell High School are doing
for the local, state, national, and world communities! The site has been created and edited
